Journaling into Spring
No art experience required. All supplies provided. You may bring a journal to work in or use the supplied watercolor paper.
As the spring bulbs break the ground, it is a time of new things stirring to life. Our art journals are a great place to capture the new thoughts and ideas that are whispering to us. Using word and image we can "hear" better and see what new directions life is calling us in. You are invited to bring any photos that speak to you of spring-you'll also receive a sheet of flower photos to incorporate in your pages. You'll learn several techniqes for merging writing, imagery and photos. Join me for a fun day of guided writing exercises mixed with free form creative play. This is a great way to go deeper and hear the true calling of our hearts that we are often too busy to hear! Emphasis will be on expanding the joy in our lives and hearts.

Sketching Your Journey
Watercolor 1 or equivalent recommended. All supplies provided.
Learn tricks for creating expressive watercolor sketches on location while traveling, visiting a cafe, or from your photos after you get back home. This style of art is loose and freeing. Starting with easy drawing exercises to warm up, you’ll gradually add in detail with pen sketches. Then you'll add water to create a value painting. Upon this foundation you'll add successive layers of color to build your image. No drawing experience needed. Bring photos of a special place you've visited or would like to paint, and have fun bringing it to life. Come discover how visually exciting it can be to combine pen and ink sketches with watercolor!

Making Journals with Children's Books
No art experience required. Bring two children's picture books. All other supplies provided.

The magic of children's books never fails to enchant us. Learn how to make your own one-of-a-kind journal, using one children's book as the beginning structure and another book to cut up and use for collage, pockets, and flaps. The thrift stores have plenty of books-give them a new life with your creativity! You'll learn techniques for decorating the covers and decorating the interior pages. We'll recapture the magic of stories, using collage, acrylic paint, ink, and markers. By adding words, windows, and other interactive elements, you'll make a special journal just for you!

My Favorite Places: Flights of Imagination
No art experience required. All supplies provided. You may bring a journal to work in or use the supplied watercolor paper.
Ever wish you could take the real world and add a few twists of your own? Come give your imagination wings as you combine photos with acrylic paint and markers to create your own favorite place to be. Create your fantasy house, vacation destination, or a whole other world of your choosing. You can include anything you want! You'll layer images and paint, using paint and markers to embellish and transform your image into a delightful escape. Learn several painting techniques for merging photos and paint together seamlessly. This not only is very fun for your creative self – it is nourishing for your soul to contemplate being in this place! This technique works equally well in an art journal or on paper.

Mixed Media Travel Journals
No art experience required. All supplies provided. Bring a journal to work in.
Celebrate your adventures in your art journal! Whether you are planning a trip, or are back from one, you'll learn many fun techniques to capture your experience. Techniques will include: mapping your journey, keeping lists, altering photos, and how to create pockets to hold mementos. I will also share with you many ideas on how to arrange your writing, photos, tickets, and other travel ephemera on the page. You'll get a lots of ideas for capturing your impressions on the road, and in-depth ideas to use when you get back home. You may bring your own photos and ephemera from a trip or if you just want to practice for an upcoming trip, bring any trip planning materials you have. I'll send you a list of ideas when you register for the class. Join us and have the fun of anticipating or remembering your trip with a wide variety of art techniques!

Altered Book Journal
No art experience required. All supplies provided. Bring a hard back book with non glossy pages.
Have you ever wondered how to convert an old book into your own colorful journal? This is so fun to do! Bring a book and I’ll show you how. You’ll learn how to prepare the cover, reinforce the pages, cut windows, add envelopes and attach pockets. Next with wild swooshes of color, collage, and cut up photos we’ll celebrate the freedom of expression in joyful abandon. Learn new ways to incorporate collage, photos and other ephemera. We’ll add in delicious textures and patterns using acrylic paint and objects.

Summer Woodland Journal
No art experience required. Bring a journal to work in. All other supplies provided. You are welcome to bring your own photos.
When you go for a walk in the woods, on the beach or in the desert, what do you feel? What speaks to you? What images and sounds call to you? In this class you'll learn techniques for incorporating photos, transparencies, small found objects, decorative papers, copper tape, eyelets, and paper bags to create your own journal pages to celebrate your own personal connection with nature. You are invited to bring any small bits of nature, paper, your own photos and quotes that speak to you-use these to personalize your pages in addition to the photos and transparencies that you'll be supplied. If there is a place you've been that you'd like to revisit through your creativity this is a great way to capture it and feel the magic of nature even when you are inside.
