Artist Statement

We've all had the experience of walking into a place, indoors or out, and suddenly feeling better. My goal is to create visually delicious paintings which are uplifting, joyful or soothing. Our lives can get so busy and stressful. I create to give one a breath of fresh air and to be reminded of the good things that are all around us.

Biography

Liesel Lund lives on Whidbey Island in Washington State, where she often is out painting en plien air, the fields, forests and beaches of the Pacific Northwest.

Liesel studied fine art and scientific illustration at The Evergreen State College, The University of Washington and Gage Academy of Art.

Over the years she has worn many creative hats. As a Peace Corps Volunteer in Thailand she created a nature education center at a Doi Luang National Park. Later she designed graphics for Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoo's Butterflies and Blooms exhibit, children’s books for McGraw-Hill, and textile prints for Tommy Bahama's tropically inspired clothing.

In 2008, she left the design field to be a full time artist and workshop instructor. She taught at Daniel Smith Art store, Winslow Art Center and at national art retreats.

In 2016, she moved from Seattle to Whidbey Island. Being surrounded by nature inspired her to paint outdoors. She has shown her work at numerous shows on the island and at Langley's First Saturday Art Walks. She continues to expand her knowledge of how to use paint to create the feeling she wants to evoke with the subject. She has studied with Aimee Erickson, Jon Redmond, Jeff Legg, Kathleen Speranza and Ingrid Christensen.

Collector's often tell her that they placed her artwork in special places in their home so they can see it frequently and be uplifted by it.
